Former South African spinner Imran Tahir believes that India underestimated South Africa and were overconfident going into the tour, which led to their humiliating defeats in the Test and ODI series.
The Proteas side grabbed a 2-1 victory in the Test series and now have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the Test series. The third and the final ODI is yet to be played but the outcome of the series is confirmed.
"I don't judge any team, but India is a very good side and this South African team is just growing up. India misjudged them and they were overconfident that they can defeat this team easily. This is the main reason for India's defeat," said Tahir as quoted by Hindustan times.
The leg spinner is currently playing with the World Giants in the Legends League Cricket. Tahir added that India has been playing good cricket for 4 to 5 years and a win over a strong side will be a big boost for South Africa.
"This is the biggest victory than anything. I believe this win is very special as this team is too young and they beat the nation who is dominating both formats for a long time. SA played so well and locked both series," he added.
Newlands in Cape Town will host the final ODI match of the series on the 23rd of January. South Africa will look to whitewash the visitors in the series.
Imran Tahir, currently playing for the World Giants, will play his next match against India Maharajas at the Al Amerat Stadium, Oman today. They lost their first match against Asia Lions yesterday, January 21.
