On 9 December 2022, East Bengal FC took on Hyderabad FC in the ongoing Indian Super League. The match took place in Gachibowli Stadium, Hyderabad. Speaking about their forms, East Bengal were coming off after a 3-1 victory over Jamshedpur FC. On the other hand, Hyderabad were also coming off after a 3-1 victory over Chennaiyin FC.

So, the stage was set for a great battle as both teams were looking to strengthen their position at the table. But, the Red and Gold brigade failed to win the match as Hyderabad defeated them 2-0. After this result, East Bengal FC are currently in the eighth position while Hyderabad FC are at the top. After the match, East Bengal FC head coach, Stephen Constantine said that they deserved to get atleast one point from the game.

“I think we did enough and deserved at least a point from the game.” - East Bengal FC head coach Stephen Constantine

During the post-match press conference, Stephen Constantine said: “I think we did enough and deserved at least a point from the game. Hyderabad FC scored against the run of play, they were very professional in the second half, but we lacked quality in certain areas, and I don’t think we did enough in the second half to take points, but that is football.”

“I thought the boys fought very well, they gave everything they had, and when you play that well for 55-60 minutes against a team that is in the first place. You think you deserve something out of the game. We are disappointed, but the boys gave a good account of themselves,” Constantine added.

He also opened up about the missed chance from Cleiton Silva. “The keeper did not save it, the player missed the chance. He (Cleiton Silva) puts it away nine out of ten times. He lost control and the header was a bit heavy, which got away from him. Cleiton (Silva) does not miss those but it happens as he is a human after all. If he scores that before halftime, then it is a different game,” the East Bengal FC head coach concluded.
