After nearly three years, Rohit Sharma finally got his 30th ODI century on Tuesday against New Zealand. While the star batter had been scoring runs on occasion, he had yet to reach the three-digit mark, which may have limited him to play freely.
In the third ODI against the Black Caps, Rohit and Shubman Gill put on a 200-plus run opening stand, with each scoring a century. Meanwhile, Gill has been in great form this year. having appeared in six One-Day Internationals in 2023, he has scored over 570 runs, including a double-century.
After the third ODI at Indore's Holkar Stadium, Gill told Rahul Dravid about an interesting incident that occurred between him and Rohit while they were batting. He recalled how Rohit's experience had helped him predict what was going to happen.
“To be out batting with him, it’s the little things that make a huge difference. Like when I and Rohit bhai were batting – I think he was on 70 or 80 – and Daryl Mitchell was bowling. He said that this looks like one of the bowlers who might get me out because his deliveries are stopping but I will still go after him. This is the mindset that great players have,” added Gill.
