Mumbai weren't really at their best during the Indian T20 league 2022. However, Tim David managed to impress one and all. He was at his best at the back-end of the tournament. He played several memorable knocks for the Mumbai-based franchise. After a stellar performance in the cash-rich league, he might be in line for an Australian call-up.
Australia's white-ball captain Aaron Finch has now hinted that he might be selected to play for the Australian team soon. He said that they are keeping a close eye on David after his stellar performance in the Indian T20 League.
"Tim David has been in fantastic form for a while now. He was at his brutal best in the final stage of the IPL. Him being so consistent, that’s something we'll definitely look at over the next little while," Finch told Fox Cricket.
Tim David in cricketing leagues across the world
The Singapore-born cricketer scored 186 runs in eight matches at a massive strike rate of 216.27 for Mumbai this season. The right-handed batter came into the limelight after he made his debut in the Big Bash League with Perth Scorchers in 2017. Since then, he has played in many leagues across the world, including Pakistan Super League, Caribbean Premier League, the Hundred, and the Indian T20 League.
David maintained his outstanding form in the ongoing T20 Blast as well. On Sunday (May 29), he scored 60 runs off 25 balls for Lancashire against Worcestershire at Old Trafford. During his time at the crease, he hit four fours and four sixes.
Australia will travel to Sri Lanka this week for three Twenty20 Internationals, five One-Day Internationals, and two Test matches. The squad for the same has already been named, and while David isn't on it, Finch's words suggest that a call-up to the Australian team is on the cards.
Aaron Finch, on the other hand, played for Kolkata in the Indian T20 League 2022. The right-handed batter had a bad run. In the five matches he played for the men in purple, he was only able to score 86 runs.
