Ahead of the rescheduled fifth Test match against England, the Indian team has faced a major setback. The team captain Rohit Sharma has tested positive for Covid-19. He has currently been put in isolation at the team hotel and might miss out on the all-important Test match.

With the series at stake, India may have to look for another captain for the Indian team. Here are the captaincy options for India who can replace Rohit Sharma in rescheduled fifth Test against England.

1. Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah, who leads the Indian pace attack in all three formats, might be named captain of the Indian side in the Test match. Bumrah was named the Indian team's vice-captain for the series in South Africa earlier this year. H

He had stated that he was ready to lead India if the opportunity arises. If he is named captain, he will be the first fast bowler to lead the Indian team in 35 years. Kapil Dev was the last fast bowler to have led the Indian team in the longest format of the game.

2. Virat Kohli

The former Test captain Virat Kohli is India's most successful captain in Test cricket. He is an excellent choice to take over the leadership. The team management may consider asking him to captain India in this Test match since he is the best alternative available.

The 33-year-old had stepped down as captain earlier this year after being sacked from the ODI captaincy. Rohit Sharma had taken over the captaincy at that time.

3. Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant is an exciting captaincy prospect for the Indian team. The Indian wicket-keeper batter is often regarded as the team's future captain. While the southpaw has never led a Test squad, he was recently given command of the Indian T20 team. He did not win the series against South Africa, but he made a remarkable comeback after losing the first two matches. He won the next two games before the final game was washed out.
