Mumbai has played two games in the Indian T20 League 2022 so far and lost both of them, first against Delhi and then against Rajasthan. The five-time champions generally start slow and pick up momentum later in the tournament. However, this is not something that Mumbai would hope for. They would like to win their matches early on and then be in a comfortable position later in the tournament. Their next game is against Kolkata on the 6th of April. Here are some of the changes they need to make to get back to winning ways.
Suryakumar Yadav replacing Anmolpreet Singh
Suryakumar Yadav is one of the core players of the Mumbai team. He has been one of their star players since he rejoined them in 2018. This season he missed out on the first two games due to a finger injury. If he is fit, Anmolpreet Singh will have to make way for him. In the two matches that he has played, Singh has only scored 13 runs. Surya will make Mumbai's batting much more stable.
Kieron Pollard and Tim David have to fire
Mumbai has some great players in their lower middle order, but they haven't been able to do well in either of the matches. They have Kieron Pollard, who has been a match-winner for Mumbai for many years. However, he has not been able to perform. In the last game, he scored just 22 runs in 24 balls, which invited a lot of criticism. Their new recruit, Tim David, has also not been able to deliver. These two players will have to do a lot better for Mumbai if the team has to win against Kolkata.
Improve their bowling
Mumbai, this season, does not have the best bowling lineup, but they are not the worst either. A bulk of the load has been put on Jasprit Bumrah's shoulders this season. While he has been performing well, others need to step in as well. Daniel Sams and Basil Thampi, their two-seamers, have an economy of 11.12 runs and 12.2 runs per over respectively. These figures are not acceptable on a platform like this. They will have to be a lot tighter against Kolkata in the next game.
