Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians grabbed their 5th IPL title in 2020 and became the second side after CSK to retain the trophy. MI has not done any changes to its core ahead of the IPL 2021 auction. However, the side has released five overseas pacers which have certainly raised a few eyebrows.

The franchise will have to look into some areas. MI need overseas pacers and a backup allrounder as well. The current IPL champions have been the most consistent team in the past few years because they have kept the team's balance almost unchanged. It will be interesting to see whom the side decides to include in the squad.

Let us look at some of the players that Mumbai Indians might try to acquire in the auctions.

1. Mitchell Starc

The Australian fast bowler hasn't featured in the IPL since 2015. Starc made his debut for RCB in 2014. The 30-year-old can become the most expensive buy in the history of the league.

Mumbai Indians, who have released the majority of their overseas bowlers, might think about buying Starc. The team has a Rs 15.25 crore budget and can readily spend up to Rs 10 crore on the pacer. Starc has played 27 IPL matches and grabbed 34 wickets.

2. Pawan Negi

Mumbai might pursue an experienced backup for Krunal Pandya. Pawan Negi can be one of the best options for the side. MI has Anukul Roy, but Negi's experience can be beneficial for the side. Mumbai had plans of buying Negi in the 2018 IPL auctions, but the all-rounder went to RCB as the team used their Right to Match to retain his services.

The 28-year-old has played 50 IPL matches and scored 365 runs with a strike rate of 126.29. He has also scalped 34 wickets at an economy rate of 7.86.

3. Jhye Richardson

The 24-year-old Australian fast bowler Jhye Richardson is likely to make his IPL debut in the year 2021. Richardson has picked up 26 wickets in the ongoing Big Bash League. His brilliant performance in the Australian league might fetch him an IPL contract. Mumbai Indians could be one of the teams to bid for the young pacer.
