The veteran spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja sustained a thumb injury on the third day of the Sydney test.
Scan reports showed that the all-rounder would have to head back home to manage his injury. The 32-year-old will have to sit out for at least the first two Test matches against England. The series will be starting from February 5 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, in Chennai.
His absence is an opportunity for other players. Let’s have a look at some of the players that can replace the all-rounder if he misses the England Test series:
1. Shahbaz Nadeem
Over the years, Shahbaz Nadeem has been a promising bowler who can do wonders for the Indian team. Apart from being a renowned left-arm bowler, he is also an excellent fielder.
The spinner has played 117 first-class fixtures, getting 443 wickets at an average of 28.7. Nadeem played his maiden test match at home against South Africa on October 19, 2019. He was quite impressive as he scalped four wickets in two innings.
2. Hardik Pandya
The wiry young lad has always been known for his fearless batting ability and outstanding fielding. The Baroda-born has the ability to win the matches single-handedly for the country.
In 2017, Pandya made his Test debut against Sri Lanka. He has featured in 11 test matches scoring 532 runs at an average of 31.3. The all-rounder has also picked up 17 wickets at an economy of 3.38.
3. Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep Yadav is the main option to replace Ravindra Jadeja in the upcoming series against England. The spinner has an excellent record in the purest format of the game.
Kuldeep featured in 6 Test matches and has managed to scalp 24 wickets at an economy rate of 3.51. The southpaw has an equally impressive record in first-class cricket. In all the 31 games he has played so far, he has picked 121 wickets.
