The Rajasthan Royals have officially released the dynamic Australian batsman on retention day.

The franchise had an awful 2020 season as they won only six games. The Royals had a great start with two consecutive wins, but their key players failed to capitalize. The side ended last on the points table. Therefore, the management had to take some crucial calls ahead of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League. With the release of Steve Smith, the franchise increased their balance purse to INR 34.85 crores. Let us have a look at some of the teams that might make a move for Smith at the IPL 2021 auction.

Kings XI Punjab

The Punjab team released two of their biggest superstars: Glenn Maxwell and Sheldon Cottrell. Maxwell failed to even hit a single six in the 2020 edition of the league. Thus, Punjab will need a sorcerous batsman in the team. The management has a whopping balance purse of INR 53.2 crores. Smith looks the best batsman available and he would definitely be a valuable addition to the KXIP squad.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Fans can witness two of the biggest players of the modern era playing together if RCB decides to pick Smith in the auction. The Bangalore based franchise already released their leading players: Chris Morris, Moeen Ali and Aaron Finch. With a balance purse of INR 35.7 crore, RCB can easily rope in the Australian as a top or middle-order batsman.

Chennai Super Kings

After having a horrible season,CSK will target some big players for the upcoming season. After the retirement of Shane Watson, there is an empty slot for an overseas player. The "Yellow Army" will surely love to have Smith in the squad. CSK already released players like Murali Vijay and Kedar Jadhav to enhance their balance purse. CSK can perk up things during the auction for Smith.
