Mumbai has been the most successful team in the history of the Indian T20 League, with five championships. They have the credibility that not many teams have. They always build a team culture that has welcomed players and made them stick with the team. This time too, they were able to retain the players that have been with them for a long time.
They have retained Jasprit Bumrah and will try to buy at least one other pacer of the same calibre. They always try to pair an overseas quick with Bumrah. At first, it was Lasith Malinga, then it was Mitchell McClenaghan and Trent Boult. This time too, they will look to do the same.

Mumbai will have a good quality player to pair with Bumrah if they buy Pat Cummins in the auction.
Kagiso Rabada
Kagiso Rabada is one of the quickest bowlers out there at the moment. His performance in the Indian T20 League has been very impressive too. He won the purple cap in 2020, but could not make the same impact in 2021. He was released from the Delhi squad ahead of the auction. Rabada and Bumrah went neck to neck in the competition for the purple cap in 2020, but Rabada got his hands on the award. It will be interesting to see him pair with Jasprit Bumrah.
Trent Boult
Trent Boult played a crucial role in Mumbai's dominance in the recent few years. He became their go-to option in the powerplays. In fact, he was the power player of the season in 2020. The duo of Bumrah and Boult is a tried and tested one for them, and there is a great possibility that Mumbai will try to buy him back for the 2022 season. However, it will not be that easy for them. Many teams will look to buy him and make him their primary bowler.
