Chennai had a horrible season in the Indian T20 League 2022 as they ended at the ninth spot in the points table. The change of captaincy at the start of the season had a poor effect on the team's performance early on. Later on, MS Dhoni was once again handed over the leadership role, but he could not do much either. The players failed to perform with consistency, and as a result, never stood a chance to qualify for the playoffs. Here are the players Chennai might release ahead of the Indian T20 League 2023.
Chris Jordan
Chris Jordan suffered from illness during the season, but was fit for most of the games. He got a few chances to play this season but was ineffective. He only got two wickets and leaked runs at an economy rate of 10.52 in four matches. After which, the team did not star him in the XI despite not having the best bowling attack. The men in yellow might not be too keen on having him back on their side next season.
Dwaine Pretorious
Dwaine Pretorius played in a few games for Chennai this season, but was not consistent. Although the all-rounder gave a few good performances with the bat and the ball, it wasn't enough to win them matches. He scored 44 runs with a strike rate of 157 in six matches and got six wickets with an economy of 10. He was constantly in and out of the team. Thus, he might not be in the team's scheme of things in the next season.
Tushar Deshpande
Tushar Deshpande impressed everyone with his performances during his initial games in the Indian T20 League. However, he could not repeat that for the men in yellow this season. He got a chance to play in some of the games as the team lacked quality seamers. Deshpande just got one wicket in two outings this season, with an economy rate of nine. He, too, might not be retained by the team for the next season.
