The Hyderabad team weren't at their best during the Indian T20 League 2022. They would either win consecutive matches or lose matches in a row. In the end, they did not stand a chance to qualify for the playoffs as they were placed eighth with six wins in 14 games.
While the orange army put in some strong performances, many of its players had little to no impact on the team. Here are the players Hyderabad might release ahead of Indian T20 League 2023.
Glenn Phillips
The Kiwi wicketkeeper, Glenn Phillips, did not star in a single match for the Hyderabad team this season. Hyderabad's 1.5 crore buy could not fit in the Playing XI as Kane Williamson, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, and Marco Jansen were the four overseas regulars for the team.
Phillips played three matches in the Indian T20 League prior to this season but only amassed 20 runs. The Hyderabad team might not be too keen on holding him back for the next season.
Shreyas Gopal
Shreyas Gopal only featured in a single game for Hyderabad this season. However, the all-rounder did not have the best time in his only appearance donning the orange jersey. With the bat, he scored just nine runs.
With the ball, he took one wicket but was highly expensive. He conceded 34 runs in his spell of three overs. He had an economy rate of 11.33 in the game. The 29-year was also not the team's primary option when Washington Sundar was injured.
Romario Shepherd
In the absence of Marco Jansen, the West Indies quick Romario Shepherd was given a few chances early on in the competition. However, he was unable to capitalise on them and hence failed to create an impression. He soon lost his place in the playing XI and could not make a comeback.
Shepherd only got three wickets in the 2022 edition, and conceded runs at an economy rate of 10.9 in the three matches in which he played. Thus, Hyderabad might not retain him for the next season.
