All the Lucknow fans were excited to watch Mark Wood play in the 15th edition of the Indian T20 league. As the franchise spent a hefty amount to acquire his services, he was expected to be one of their key players. However, Wood suffered an injury during the Test series against West Indies and was ruled out of the Indian T20 League.
So which player should replace the English pacer? Who could be an ideal replacement for him? Today, we shall be taking a look at three players who can replace Mark Wood in Lucknow.
1) Kane Richardson:
Kane Richardson has been playing white-ball cricket for quite a while now. He has a lot of tricks up his sleeve and has made it a habit to deceive the opposition batters. Besides, the Aussie pacer isn't new to the biggest T20 league in the world.
He has played 15 games in the Indian T20 league and has picked 19 wickets. His bowling average and strike rate are 24.86 and 17.63 respectively. Richardson has picked 37 T20I wickets as well.
2) Ishant Sharma:
Ishant Sharma is a veteran. The Indian pacer has worked on his bowling in the shortest format of the game. He is superb with the new ball and can get the ball to swing early on. It is to be noted that he has played a lot of games in the biggest T20 league in the world. Thus, his experience might turn out to be useful for Lucknow. The best part of having Sharma in the side is that he is an Indian player and that allows the KL Rahul-led side to play an extra overseas player.
3) Saqib Mahmood:
Saqib Mahmood is one of the most talented pacers in England. His USP is to bowl quicker deliveries at will. His current form has been superb, to say the least. He could be an ideal replacement for Wood as both have the same set of skills. Mahmood might not be as experienced or established as the Durham pacer but he could wreak havoc with his abilities.
