The 15th season of the Indian T20 League is less than three weeks away from the start. T20 cricket is mostly about batters hitting sixes and fours and getting as many runs as possible. However, it has been observed that strike bowlers have helped teams win the trophy. In 2008 and 2009, Sohail Tanvir and R.P.Singh were the purple cap winners. They played for Rajasthan and Hyderabad respectively.

In 2016, Bhuvneshwar Kumar won the purple cap and helped his side Hyderabad win the title. Comparing this to Orange Cap winners, an award for highest run-getters, there are only two instances where Orange Cap winners have also won the ITL trophy in the same season. The first instance was when Robin Uthappa won the award and the trophy while playing for Kolkata in 2014.

The second instance was when Ruturaj Gaikwad won the trophy and the award for Chennai last year. In this listicle, we will discuss the three players who can win the purple cap this year.

Three players who can win the purple cap

Jasprit Bumrah

Bumrah has been an integral part of Mumbai since making his international debut in 2016. Before this, he played for the franchise in a handful of matches from 2013 to 2015. From 2016 to 2021, he played almost every game of the season and picked more than 15 wickets every season. Notably, the right-arm pacer hasn't won a Purple Cap, which is hard to believe for a bowler of his stature. The 28-year-old did come close to winning the award in 2020 but Kagiso Rabada ran away with the award in the end. This year, it will be interesting to see if the Ahmedabad-born player can win the purple cap award.

Ravi Bishnoi

The former India U19 player has the opportunity to win the Purple Cap. Leg-spinners have always been successful in T20 cricket. Bishnoi has played 23 games and has 24 scalps to his name while playing for Punjab in 2020 and 2021. This year, ahead of the auction, the 21-year-old was signed by new team Lucknow. With the tournament to be played in Mumbai and Pune, there are chances of pitches going through wear and tear. This makes the Jodhpur-born player a contender to win the Purple Cap this year.

Kagiso Rabada

The South Africa pacer is another contender to win the Purple Cap this year. He won the award in 2020 while playing for Delhi. This year, he was signed by Punjab and can win the award as the pitches in Mumbai and Pune are helpful for pacers.
