Faf du Plessis was one of the hot buys of the Indian 2022 mega auction. He was given a total of seven crores by Bangalore, which was one of the biggest steals of the entire auction. He has a lot to offer to the team and it was expected that Chennai will try to buy him back in the auction. However, Chennai showed little interest in him and Bangalore pounced on the opportunity and roped him. Now that Bangalore was able to get him in the auction, they can use him to the fullest. Here are the reasons why Faf du Plessis is a stellar pick in mega auction.

Captaincy option

Bangalore was looking for an aggressive captain who can complement Virat Kohli . Many expected Bangalore would target the more expected names for this position. At the top of the list were Shreyas Iyer and David Warner. Everyone was surprised when Bangalore went after Faf du Plessis. Du Plessis brings in a lot of leadership experience and can mold himself as an attacking or defensive captain depending on the situation.

A good opener

Faf du Pless was one of the most consistent players when he played for the Chennai team until last season. He was one of their top run-scorers, falling just short to Ruturaj Gaikwad in the chase for orange cap. He was also their highest scorer in the final of the season. Bangalore has always had some or other issues with opening partners. Often, Virat has stepped up and opened the innings. This season with Faf taking the charge as one of the openers, 50 percent of their work has been done.

Replacement to AB de Villiers

While there is no player that can replace AB de Villiers, Faf is an overseas player that has a similar attacking style of play. He strikes the ball hard and also can produce unorthodox shots like ABD. His lap shot has proven to be a good option for him in the past. AB de Villiers decided to retire from all formats of the game after the 2021 season. Bangalore was looking for a player that could take his spot in the team. Although the two play at different positions, their approach is pretty similar, to dominate the opposition.
