Babar Azam is one of the emerging players in world cricket. He is globally acknowledged as one of the greatest players in the sport. Hailing from Pakistan, Azam has never been able to escape the comparisons with his Indian counterpart Virat Kohli. The two have had some brilliant performances for their respective teams, which have added to the comparisons. In the meantime, here are the records set by Virat Kohli which were later broken by Babar Azam.

Fastest to 1000 ODI Runs as the captain

In the match against West Indies, Babar Azam scored a brilliant century to take his team through. He needed 98 runs before the game to beat Virat Kohli's previous record for the fastest 1000 ODI runs as captain. Virat had achieved this feat in just 17 games. Azam's century allowed him to get to this record in just 13 games. Batting at the top of the order, Azam is in exceptional form in the ongoing ODI series, where he guided the team to a win in the first match.

Fastest to 13 ODI centuries

Babar Azam scored 103 against South Africa in Centurion in 2021, becoming the quickest batter to achieve 13 ODI century. The Pakistan skipper required only 76 innings to overtake Hashim Amla and Virat Kohli with 13 ODI hundreds. Amla achieved the mark in 83 innings, while Kohli needed 86 innings to get his 13th ODI century. Since then, Babar Azam has continued his incredible run, increasing his ODI century count to 17 in 87 innings that he has played so far.

Fastest to 1000 T20I runs as the captain

During Pakistan's 20-20 World Cup Super 12 match against Afghanistan in 2021, Babar Azam became the fastest skipper to 1000 T20I runs. He surpassed Virat Kohli to get to the top. While the former Indian captain had taken 30 innings to get to the total, Azam took 26 innings to break the record. Babar Azam has become a very reliable batter in the shortest format of the game, and has been leading the Pakistan team with brilliance.
