The squad for India's tour of Zimbabwe has been announced. Once again, a lot of first-choice players have been rested. The decision has been taken to keep them fresh ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup 2022. Some players in the team have made comeback after injuries. Notably, the series will consist of three ODI games which will be played on August 18, 20, and 22 in Harare.
Not to forget, the Asia Cup will start five days after the series which is why a lot of first-choice players have been rested. On the other hand, there are a few players who didn't make it to the squad but should have. These players have done enough to warrant a selection. In this listicle, we will discuss three players who are unlucky to lose out on selection.
Three unlucky players to miss out
- KL Rahul
Bein KL Rahul isn't easy. Ahead of the South Africa series, he was ruled out due to a groin injury. This also meant that he would play in the England tour as well. A little while ago, he was set to make his comeback. In a video that went viral, the right-hander was seen practicing with Jhulan Goswami in the nets.
However, ahead of the ongoing T20I series against the West Indies, he tested positive for COVID 19. This is the reason he missed out on the current series and the upcoming series against the Red Brigade.
2. Arshdeep Singh
The left-arm medium pacer is also left out of the squad. However, it is not clear whether he is dropped or rested as a part of the rotation policy from the Indian cricket board. In the limited-overs games he played in England and the Caribbean, he has done fairly alright.
As the selectors have gone with the second-string squad, he also should have been included in the squad. After all, he is a youngster who is trying to mark at the highest level.
3. Suryakumar Yadav
Just like Arshdeep, Suryakumar Yadav also misses out without without any clarification. Given that he still need more games to prove himself, he could have been included in the squad. After all, he didn't had a great ODI series with the bat against the Maroon Brigade.
Talking about his numbers in the format, the averages 34 in 12 games he has played so far.
