FIFA World Cup 2022 was a well-managed tournament. However, it was criticised due to the host nation Qatar’s record of human rights violations and stance on LGTBQIA+ agendas. FIFA President Gianni Infantino has been accused of taking money from Qatari authorities to let them host the tournament. Recently, the criticism has gone to a new level as a controversial figurine showcasing Infantino was revealed in the German city of Frankfurt.

“This moral lesson-giving — one-sided — is just hypocrisy. I don’t want to give you any lessons of life, but what is going on here is profoundly, profoundly unjust. For what we Europeans have been doing for the last 3,000 years, we should apologise for the next 3,000 years before starting giving moral lessons to people,” said Infantino defending Qatar previously.

The FIFA president referred to the tournament as one of the best as it saw several underdogs upsetting favourites, the biggest being Morocco’s memorable run to the semi-finals. The tournament had a thrilling end in one of the, if not the best, World Cup ever after Argentina defeated France on penalties as Lionel Messi lifted the World Cup in a poetic, written-in-the-stars finish.

Fans were quick to back the FIFA President after his figurine’s image went viral

However, fans on the Internet were mostly of the opinion that Germany was only jealous of the success the Arabs were getting after the Qatar FIFA World Cup.

“It was the best version of the World Cup. Unfortunately, their minds are jealous of the success of others, and they still believe that they are the best. The world has changed, and preference has become for those who offer the best,” wrote one user.

Some tweets also highlighted that Sepp Blatter was the FIFA President when Qatar’s bid to host the mega competition was accepted. There were also tweets highlighting the arrangements and travelling ease of the Qatar World Cup, believed to be the most spectator-friendly World Cup ever.
