India beat England by 50 runs in the first T20I of the three-match series. A good batting performance allowed the visitors to set a lofty target of 199 runs. The bowlers then took regular wickets in the second innings to easily win the match. The English batters never looked settled in the chase.

India won the toss and decided to bat first at The Rose Bowl. While the batters were looking to get some quick runs early on, they lost some early wickets. Rohit Sharma (24) and Ishan Kishan (eight) lost the wickets within the powerplay, but Deepak Hooda and Suryakumar Yadav helped the team score 66 runs in the first six overs.

India kept the run rate high at all times, but they also kept losing wickets at the same time. Hooda (33) and Yadav (39) scored quickly but were out by the 12th over for a total of 126 runs. Hardik Pandya, on the other hand, continued his spectacular run and began scoring wonderfully. He scored a few boundaries and completed his maiden T20I half-century in the 17th over.

Reece Topley, however, got the better of him in the next over. In the 18th over, Pandya (51) was dismissed for a team score of 180. The men in blue then slowed significantly after losing a few more wickets. India ended the first innings with a score of 198/8.

In the defence, India got off to an excellent start. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took the wicket of Jos Buttler (0) in the opening over with his stunning inswinger. Arshdeep Singh, on his debut, also troubled the batters. Pandya then claimed two more wickets in the same over, dismissing Dawid Malan (21), who was looking threatening, and Liam Livingstone (0). England managed 32 runs in the first six overs.

The hosts' problems worsened as Pandya took another wicket in his second over. Moeen Ali (36) and Harry Brook (28) built a partnership of 65 runs, but Yuzvendra Chahal got both their wickets in the 13th over. The Jos Buttler-led side was reduced to 101/6 in 13 overs. Pandy grabbed one more wicket in the 14th over to complete his hour-wicket haul.

India continued to take wickets, and England was unable to recover from their setback. They were eventually all-out for a team score of 148 runs in 19.3 overs. With this win, the Rohit Sharma-led team took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
