Andre Russell is the 2nd bowler to bag a 5 wicket haul in IPL 2021. Not only that, Russell is also the 2nd bowler to bag a 5 wicket haul against MI in IPL history. Even though the West Indian doesn’t look confident with the bat this year, Russell has silenced his critics with the ball. Russell needed only 2 overs to derail Mumbai’s entire lower batting order. After a superb outing with the ball against MI, Russell is also expected to deliver with his bat. That said, here is a list of Andre Russell’s 3 best bowling spells in his IPL career:
3. 5/15 vs KKR (IPL 2021)
The MI batting order had no answer to Andre Russell. In Russell’s 1st over, he scalped the wickets of Kieron Pollard and Marco Jansen. Later in the 19th over, Russell picked the wickets of Krunal Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah in 2 consecutive deliveries. Russell was on a hat-trick ball. Unfortunately, Russell could not bag a hattrick. However, in the last ball of MI’s innings, Russell dismissed Rahul Chahar, completing his 5 wicket haul in some style.
2. 4/20 vs Punjab (IPL 2016)
In an encounter between Kolkata and Punjab in IPL 2016, the latter needed 164 runs to win the match. While Russell could not score runs with the bat, he certainly delivered with the ball against Punjab. Russell got the better of Manan Vohra, David Miller, Marcus Stoinis and Swapnil Sharma. In the end, Punjab managed to post only 157 runs on the board as KKR won the match by 7 runs. Owing to his brilliant bowling, Andre Russell was adjudged the Man of the Match.
1. 3/26 vs DC (IPL 2016)
In a match which KKR lost in IPL 2016, Russell was Kolkata’s standout bowler against DC. Batting first, DC looked threatening from the start. Karun Nair and Sam Billings contributed 68 and 54 runs respectively. In the end, West Indian allrounder Carlos Braithwaite’s cameo of 34 helped DC reach a total of 186. Russell bowled a total of 4 overs, in which he picked the wickets of Shreyas Iyer, Quinton de Kock and Braithwaite. In reply, KKR were all out for just 159 runs. DC went on to win the match by a comprehensive margin of 27 runs.
