New Zealand has produced some of the world’s finest batting talents in the Test format. However, only a few of them have managed to make a terrific start to their Test career. These players not only impressed the team management but also took the onus of fulfilling their role in the team. That said, here are the best knocks by a New Zealand debutant in the longest format of the game.

3. Hamish Rutherford (171)

Hamish Rutherford batted brilliantly on his Test debut for New Zealand against England in a Test match back in 2013. In just 217 balls, Rutherford amassed a total of 171 runs. His sublime knock with the bat featured a total of 22 fours and 3 huge sixes. In the end, the Test match between England and New Zealand resulted in a stalemate. Rutherford had a great Test debut with New Zealand but has not performed well for NZ in Tests since then. Rutherford will definitely want to make his return to the NZ Test side.

2. Devon Conway (200)

Devon Conway looked in fine form with the bat on his Test debut for New Zealand. Conway made his Test debut against England in the ongoing Test series between New Zealand and England. In the 1st innings of the 1st Test, Conway smacked an impressive 200 runs in total for NZ. His terrific knock with the bat featured a total of 22 fours and 1 six. The 29-year-old certainly has the potential to become one of New Zealand’s greatest Test batsmen.

1. Matthew Sinclair (214)

Matthew Sinclair grabbed eyeballs after a terrific batting performance on his Test debut against West Indies in a Test match back in 1999. In 447 balls, Sinclair smashed a total of 214 runs in the 1st innings of the Test. Owing to Sinclair’s sublime knock of 214, NZ managed to post a mammoth total of 518 in the 1st innings of the Test match. In the end, New Zealand went on to win the Test match by a huge margin of an innings and 104 runs.
