That said, here are India’s 3 best Test victories against England away from home:

1. The Oval (1971)

India registered a historic victory over England at the Oval in the final Test of the 1971 Test series. Batting first, the England Test side posted a total of 355 runs. In reply, India posted a total of 284 in the 1st Innings of the Test. England managed to score only 101 runs in the 2nd innings of the Test. Hence, India needed to chase a total of 173 to win the final Test of the 1971 Test series. The Men in Blue chased the target in 101 overs.

2. Headingley (1986)

India exerted their dominance over England in the 1986 Test series. The Indian Test side won the 1st Test by 5 wickets. India just needed to win the 2nd Test series to seal the 1986 Test series. Batting first, India went on to post a total of 272 on the board. In reply, the England Test side were bowled out for just 102. In the 2nd innings of the 2nd Test, India posted a total of 237 on the board. Hence, England needed to chase a total of 408 to win the 2nd Test. However, the Indian Test side restricted England to just 128. In the end, the Indian Test side won the 2nd Test and the 1986 Test series against England.

3. Headingley (2002)

India pulled off a historic victory against England in the 3rd Test of the 2002 Test series. Batting first, India posted a mammoth total of 628, thanks to centuries from Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. The Indian Test side bowled out England for 273 and 309 in the 1st and 2nd innings respectively. In the end, India went on to win the match by an innings and 46 runs.
