MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni is arguably one of the most successful captains in all the 3 formats of the game. Back in 2007, Dhoni guided India to their 1st ever T20 World Cup. In 2011, India won their 2nd ICC World Cup Trophy under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. The 39-year-old guided CSK to 3 IPL trophies in his IPL career. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, CSK won the IPL title in 2010, 2011, and 2018. Dhoni also boasts a solid win record in his IPL career. Out of 195 matches as CSK captain in the IPL, Dhoni has won a total of 115 matches. His win percentage in the IPL is a solid 50.27%.

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma is undoubtedly the most successful captain in the history of the IPL. Rohit Sharma became captain of the MI side back in IPL 2013. In 8 seasons as MI captain, Rohit Sharma has won the IPL trophy a record 5 times in total. Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, MI won the IPL title in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. The MI skipper also boasts a solid win record in the IPL. Out of 123 matches as MI captain, Rohit Sharma has won a total of 72 matches. His win percentage in the IPL is 60.16%.

Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir was one of the most successful captains of KKR in the IPL. Gambhir was captain of the KKR side in IPL 2012. Under Gambhir’s captaincy, KKR won their 1st ever IPL trophy back in 2012. Out of 108 matches as KKR captain, Gambhir won a total of 61 matches. His win percentage in the IPL as KKR captain was 56.48%.

Shane Warne

Shane Warne was the 1st captain to win the IPL. In the 1st edition of the IPL, Warne was the captain of the RR side. In the final of IPL 2008, RR defeated CSK to become the 1st IPL team to win the IPL trophy. Out of 55 games as RR captain, Shane Warne won a total of 33 matches. His win percentage as RR captain in the IPL was 54.54%.
