2022 was the year for the 20-20 format as the World Cup was the main focus for all teams including India. However, they failed to win that glory as team India lost against the eventual winner, England in the semi-final. However, they also played eight ODI series consisting of 24 matches across home and away conditions this year.

Among them, the Men in Blue lost three series while they won another five. But, there were some top-class knocks that made fans crazy. Some knocks also came in losing causes but the impact of those knocks was unmatchable. Ahead of the 2023 50-over World Cup, these knocks came in crucial situations for Rohit Sharma and his men.

Rishabh Pant 125* vs England, 3rd ODI, 17 July

The third ODI of this series took place in Manchester on 17 July 2022. It was a series decider as both teams won a game each. Speaking of the match, team India won the toss and asked England to bat first. While batting first, Jos Buttler and his men got bundled out for 59 runs in 45.5 overs.

In reply, India were in a spot of trouble by losing the top three wickets for just 38 runs. But, Rishabh Pant scored 125* runs off 113 balls to ensure the victory of Men in Blue. He batted at a strike rate of 110.61, including 16 fours and two sixes. He also stitched a solid partnership of 133 runs with Hardik Pandya. With this win, India won that ODI series by 2-1 in England.    

Axar Patel 64* vs West Indies, 2nd ODI, 24 July

The second ODI of this series took place in Port of Spain on 24 July 2022. Team India were looking to seal the series by winning this match after winning the series opener. Speaking of the match, West Indies won the toss and opted to bat first. India’s bowlers had a forgettable day as the Caribbeans posted 311 runs for six wickets in 50 overs.

In reply, the Men in Blue were in trouble when they needed 100 runs from the last ten overs with five wickets in hand. Then, Axar Patel scored 64* runs off 35 balls to win the match for his team with two balls and two wickets to spare. Eventually, India won the next match also and clean-swept the Caribbeans at their home by 3-0.     

Sanju Samson 86* vs South Africa, 1st ODI, 6 October

The first ODI of this series took place in Lucknow on 6 October 2022. All senior players were not part of that series as they already went to Australia for the 20-20 World Cup. So, young players had chances to show their potential in this series. Speaking of the match, India won the toss and asked the Proteas to bat first.

While batting first, they scored 249 runs for four wickets in 40 overs. In reply, India scored 220 runs for eight wickets in 39 overs. In the last over, they needed 30 runs. But, Sanju Samson managed only 20 runs as India lost that match by nine runs. Samson’s knock of 86* runs off 63 balls went in vain. But, the Men in Blue made a comeback in the next two matches as they won the series by 2-1.  

Rohit Sharma 51* vs Bangladesh, 2nd ODI, 7 December

The second ODI of this series took place in Mirpur on 7 December 2022. Team India were looking to level the series by winning that match. While the Bangla Tigers were looking to seal the series. Speaking of the match, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. While batting first, they scored 271 runs for seven wickets in 50 overs.

In reply, skipper Rohit Sharma came out to bat after they lost Deepak Chahar in 45.1 overs after scoring 213 runs. Rohit got an injury on his thumb while fielding and that’s why he did not come out to open the innings. But, just for the need of team India, he came out and batted despite the injury. Rohit Sharma showed great courage and scored 51* runs off 28 balls. But, his effort went in vain as India fell short by just five runs. However, Bangladesh won the series by 2-1 over India.     

Ishan Kishan 210 vs Bangladesh, 3rd ODI, 10 December

The third ODI of this series took place in Chattogram on 10 December 2022. Team India were looking to avoid the clean sweep. However, Rohit Sharma missed that match due to injury and therefore, Ishan Kishan got a chance to play as an opener. Speaking of the match, Bangladesh won the toss and asked team India to bat first. 

While batting first, they scored 409 runs for eight wickets in 50 overs. Ishan Kishan scored his maiden double-hundred as he got out after scoring 210 runs off 131 balls. He also became the fastest batter to score a double hundred in an ODI. In reply, Bangladesh got bundled out for 182 runs in 34 overs. Thus, team India won the match and the series ended 2-1 in favor of the home side.
