Indian T20 League is one of the top leagues in the cricketing world. Every year players come to India to represent their respective franchises. Last year, Gujarat won the title at their maiden attempt. So, all franchises are gearing up for the next edition of the tournament in 2023 as a mini-auction is going to happen.

According to recent reports, the auction is going to happen in Kochi on 23 December 2022. However, the Board have already said that all franchises must submit the list of retained and released players by 15 November. So, all teams are busy making huge decisions on their current available squads. Regarding that, there are several reports that many big players might not get retained by their respective franchises for the next season.

Here are the top five players who are reportedly going to be released ahead of the Indian T20 League 2023

1. Kane Williamson

This Kiwi skipper last year led his Hyderabad franchise in the Indian T20 League. However, he failed to lead them to the top four of the tournament. Hyderabad finished in the eighth position on the table with 12 points from 14 matches. However, Kane Williamson also failed to contribute with the bat.

He only managed to score 216 runs in 13 matches at an average of 19.64. Thus, it was a huge blow for the franchise as such a star player failed to score throughout the whole season. Therefore, reports are suggesting that the franchise might look to release the Kiwi skipper ahead of the upcoming mini-auction.    2. Kieron Pollard

This veteran all-rounder from West Indies is a huge name when it comes to the shortest format of the game. In the last edition of the Indian T20 League also, the Mumbai franchise showed faith in him by retaining him. But, Kieron Pollard failed to deliver miserably with both the bat and ball.

With the bat, he scored only 144 runs in 11 matches, at an average of 14.40. On the other hand, he managed only four wickets, at an economy of 8.93. His poor form was one of the reasons why Mumbai finished at rock bottom in the table last year. So, reports are there that Mumbai might look to release this veteran all-rounder for the next season. 3. Mayank Agrawal

This star Indian batter also failed to have a great season for his Punjab franchise in the last edition of the Indian T20 League. Mayank Agarwal was also the captain of the franchise. He led his team to the sixth position only with seven wins out of 14 matches. However, he did not have a great season both as a batter and leader.

Mayank scored only 196 runs in 13 matches, at an average of 16.33. So, according to recent reports, the Punjab franchise might look to release him. They have already released former Indian spinner, Anil Kumble as their head coach. Punjab have appointed Trevor Bayliss as their new head coach. 4. Jason Holder

This star all-rounder from West Indies played for the Lucknow franchise in the last edition of the Indian T20 League. Jason Holder played 12 matches and scored only 58 runs, at an average of 9.67. However, he managed to take 14 wickets with the ball in 12 matches at an economy of 9.42.

His high economy has been the main concern for the franchise. Jaso also failed to contribute in crucial stages with the bat. So, several reports are suggesting that Lucknow might look to offload this player ahead of the next season. Lucknow will look to do well this time around after their exit from the eliminator against Bangalore.    5. Shardul Thakur

This star Indian all-rounder made headlines when the Delhi franchise bought him for 10.75 Cr in the auction of the last Indian T20 League edition. In that season, Shardul Thakur played 14 matches where he scored 120 runs, at a strike rate of 15. His overall strike rate was 137.93. However, he came up with some good performances with the ball.

Thakur took 15 wickets in 14 matches, at an economy of 9.79. Despite taking wickets, he conceded runs at a high rate. Therefore, reports are there that the franchise might look to release this player ahead of the mini-auction. They even can use him as part of trading Ravindra Jadeja with the Chennai franchise.
