Finishing on a high note, the IPL 2020 gave us some match-winning individual performances to witness and cherish. From nail-biting finishes to last over drama, the IPL 2020 was one hell of a rollercoaster ride. However, during this journey, we witnessed some players who over delivered this season.
Here is a list of 5 players who have proven to be valuable buys for their respective franchises:
1. Devdutt Padikkal – Royal Challengers Bangalore
On top of this list is the RCB batsman Devdutt Padikkal. The 20-year-old defied all odds this season, finishing ahead of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers to be RCB’s highest run-getter. To be able to score more runs than these two cricketing legends is a feat in itself. Paddikal managed to amass 473 runs in 15 matches with a batting economy of 31.53 and a phenomenal strike rate of 124.80.
2. Ruturaj Gaikwad – Chennai Super Kings
One of the few positives CSK has taken this season is Ruturaj Gaikwad. Even though he managed to score only 5 runs in 3 games, going out for a duck on two occasions, he quickly compensated for that by registering back-to-back fifties, taking his tally to 204 in just 6 games. Gaikwad has shown to possess temperament and has been hailed by the CSK captain MS Dhoni for his performance against KKR.
3. Shreyas Gopal – Rajasthan Royals
Shreyas Gopal slowly rose through the ranks, impressing retired cricketers and pundits with his clinical performances. One of India’s rising leg spinners, Shreyas Gopal caught everyone’s eye last year when he bagged a hat-trick against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. His victims were Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers, and Marcus Stoinis. He was bought by RR in 2018 and has been performing consistently for them ever since.
4. Abdul Samad – Sunrisers Hyderabad
The 18-year-old hard-hitting batsman from Jammu and Kashmir has managed to score 111 runs and pick up 2 wickets in the IPL 2020. He managed to garner praise from many cricket pundits, who believe that his batting style is similar to that of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
5. Murugan Ashwin – Kings XI Punjab
Last but not least on the list is Murugan Ashwin. Although the KXIP spinner has managed to play only nine games, he managed to bag 10 wickets in those nine games. Three of those wickets came in one single match when he completely derailed the RCB batsmen, finishing with 3/2 in just a matter of 3 overs.
