Bangladesh's Tamim Iqbal announces retirement from T20Is

Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh's ODI skipper, announced his retirement from T20Is shortly after his team defeated the West Indies 3-0 in the three-match ODI series. The statement was made on the left-handed batter's official Facebook page. The post was written in Bangla and stated: "Consider me retired from T20 internationals from today. Thanks, everyone."

Tamim had last played a T20I in March 2020, which prompted speculation over his future in the format. The left-hander appeared in 78 Twenty20 Internationals for Bangladesh, scoring 1,758 runs. He is Bangladesh's sole T20I century hitter, and he ends as the team's third-best run-scorer in the format, with an average of 24.65.

Babar Azam becomes the fastest Asian to 10,000 international runs

On Sunday, Pakistan captain Babar Azam became the fastest batter in Asia and the eleventh in his country's history to reach 10,000 runs in international cricket. Babar achieved this feat in his innings of 119 runs in 244 balls in Pakistan’s first innings against Sri Lanka during the first Test at Galle International Stadium.

He broke the previous record of 232 innings established by India's star hitter Virat Kohli. In 228 innings, Babar is the fastest to attain the milestone. He is also the fifth-fastest player in the world to reach this major milestone.

PV Sindhu wins the Singapore Open for the first time

PV Sindhu of India triumphed in Singapore, defeating Wang Zhi Yi of China to claim her maiden Singapore Open championship. Sindhu won the title after defeating her opponent in three games, 21-9, 11-21, and 21-15. The Singapore Open 2022 is her third title of the 2022 season.

Sindhu controlled the first game before she lost the second. The match went to a tiebreaker, and Sindhu fought back wonderfully to win her maiden Super 500 title in 2022.

Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa Wins Paracin Open Chess Title

Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa won the Paracin Open 'A' chess competition 2022 in Serbia, scoring 8 points from nine rounds. Alexandr Predke finished second with 7.5 points, ahead of Alisher Suleymenov and India's AL Muthaiah, both of whom earned 7. Suleymenov took third place thanks to a higher tie-break score.

Praggnanandhaa was in excellent form, winning his first six games before Predke hung on for a draw in round seven. He then defeated compatriot and fellow GM Arjun Kalyan in the eighth round before drawing with Alisher Suleymenov (Kazakhstan) in the ninth and final round.

IOA Announces Indian Contingent For Commonwealth Games

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) announced a 322-person contingent for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games on Saturday, comprising 215 athletes and 107 officials and support staff. The Games will be held in Birmingham from July 28 to August 8.

Traditional strong sports like boxing, badminton, hockey, weightlifting, women's cricket (making its CWG debut), and wrestling are among those in which India hopes to excel. Athletics, cycling, swimming, and table tennis squads in India are likewise strong and ready for the challenge.
