Indian women gave an excellent performance to draw the one-off Test against the English women’s team. England elected to bat first after winning the toss at County Ground in Bristol.

The English women’s team put 396 runs on board at the loss of 9 wickets in their first innings. Half-centuries from Heather Knight, Sophia Dunkley, and Tammy Beaumont helped them make more than 300 runs. Nevertheless, Indian openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma formed an incredible 167 runs partnership.

However, the Indian side suffered a collapse after the loss of the first wicket. They were bowled out for just 231 runs. The English women’s team enforced a follow on and it seems that India would lose after they were reduced to 199/7. But an impressive batting performance from the middle order made sure that the match ended in a stalemate. Some outstanding knocks by the Indian batswomen during the one-off Test against England are as follow

Shafali Verma: 9.5/10

17-year-old Shafali Verma won the player of the match on her debut Test match. She also created a new record of most sixes hit by a batswoman in Test cricket.

But she missed out on her first hundred in Test cricket by just four runs in the first innings. In the second innings, she followed up her performance with a 63 run knock of 83 balls. She would look forward to performing similarly in the upcoming matches.

Smriti Mandhana: 8/10

Smriti Mandhana was part of the highest opening partnership in women’s Test history. She scored 78 runs from 155 deliveries and supported Verma expertly in the first innings.

Smriti Mandhana got out without crossing the double-digit mark in the second innings. Thereby, she would have to try and improve her technique in white-ball matches.

Deepti Sharma: 8/10

All-rounder Deepti Sharma was the last woman standing with 29 runs in the first innings. She was another top performer from the Indian side in the match.

In the second innings, she was promoted to number three. But the 23-year-old did not disappoint at the position and played a patient 54 runs knock from 168 balls. Her performance increased the chances of the Indian women team drawing the one-off Test match.
