The Indian cricket fans were treated to some amazing batting display on Sunday. The 399 scored by India was their highest ODI score against Australia. Team India just fell short by 1 run in what would have been yet another 400-run score in ODI cricket history. Here are the top ten scores by teams in the history of ODI Cricket.

India 418/5 versus West Indies –Indore -2011

At number 10 is India’s 418 which came against West Indies at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. Virender Sehwag scored the then World Record ODI score of 219 off 149 balls with 25 fours and 7 sixes. Gautam Gambhir and Suresh Raina chipped in with half-centuries. The Indian team won the game by 153 runs.

South Africa – 418/5 versus Zimbabwe – Potchefstroom – 2006

Mark Boucher top scored with 147 which was his only ODI century. The South Africans also saw Loots Bosman, Alviro Peterson, and Jacques Kallis score half-centuries. Boucher scored his run off 68 balls with 9 fours and 10 sixes. Zimbabwe could only score 247/4 from their 50 overs as South Africa won the game easily.

Australia – 434/9 versus South Africa – Johannesburg -2006

Skipper Ricky Ponting brought back memories of his 2003 World Cup final knock on that fateful day. Ponting scored a career-best 164 off just 105 balls with 13 fours and 9 sixes. Adam Gilchrist began the innings with 55 as Simon Katich scored 79 before Michael Hussey scored 81. Australia ended with 434/4 from their 50 overs.

South Africa – 438/4 versus India – Mumbai -2015

With the series level at 2-2, it was a winners-take-all at Mumbai. In the end, South Africa won the match by 214 runs to take the series. Quinton De Kock began with 109 runs. Faf Du Plessis then scored 133 runs before AB De Villiers took over. Mr. 360 scored 119 off just 61 balls with 3 fours and 11 sixes.

South Africa – 438/9 versus Australia – Johannesburg – 2006

This was the same game as we had listed the number 8 entry where Ponting had scored 164. Chasing 435 to win, no one gave the home side a chance. Herschelle Gibbs though scored his career-best 175 to bring the home team back. Graeme Smith scored 90 to give the home team a good start. It was Mark Boucher’s 50 and some lower-order hitting that gave the South Africans a famous win.

South Africa – 439/2 versus West Indies – Johannesburg -2015

West Indian bowlers had no place to hide as three South African batters notched up tons. Hashim Amla began with 142-ball 153 as Rilee Rossouw scored 128 runs. The main show came when AB De Villiers scored the fastest-ever ODI ton. AB De Villiers ended the innings at 149 not out from 44 balls.

Sri Lanka- 443/9 versus The Netherlands – Amstelveen -2006

Sanath Jayasuriya with 157 off 104 balls laid the foundation for Sri Lanka’s highest ODI score. Tillakaratne Dilshan then scored 117 off 78 balls to help the Lankans post the massive score. The Dutch were bowled out for 248 to lose the game by 195 runs.

England – 444/3 versus Pakistan – Nottingham -2016

Alex Hales stole the show with 171 from 122 balls to give the English a great start. Jos Buttler with 90, Joe Root with 85 and Morgan’s 57 not out helped England reach 444/3 their then-highest score. Pakistan were all out for 275 to lose the game by 169 runs.

England – 481/6 versus Australia – Nottingham -2018

Two years after scoring their highest ODI total at Nottingham, England bettered it two years later. Jonny Bairstow and Alex Hales scored centuries as Jason Roy and Moeen Ali scored half-centuries. England scored 481/6 as Australia lost by a massive 242-run margin.

England -498/4 versus Netherlands – Amstelveen -2022

England fell just two runs short of the first-ever 500-run score in ODI cricket. Centuries from Phil Salt, David Malan, and Jos Buttler blew the home team away. England won the match by 232 runs.
