Mercedes chief Toto Wolff has assured that Max Verstappen would stay in Formula One if the former rejects the new reforms. For the unversed, Verstappen had expressed his concerns last month over new race weekend rules. As per the proposed reforms, different tires will be used for different qualifying. However, the current Q1, Q2, and Q3 format will stay within the test.

Each qualifying run will use a different tire, with Q1 running hards, Q2 mediums, and finally, Q3 will run on softs. The Dutch racer while expressing skepticism said “I hope it’s not going to be cold in Imola, otherwise it’s going to be tricky!” Max joked with Planet F1.

“Don’t think we need to actually do these kinds of things in qualifying. I don’t really see the benefit of it.

“It’s better if we make sure that all the cars are close to each other and more competitive, instead of spicing things up in that way, which I think is yeah, probably for the show.”

We need to evaluate everything before implementing the changes: Toto Wolff

Meanwhile, almost a month after Max's statements, Wolff said that instead of the FP2 event, there must be some evaluation done. On the other hand, Max made his point clear about the format.

“In Baku we are talking about having a second qualifying in the moment. We don’t know how we do it and if we do it. Instead of FP2 on a sprint event on Saturday morning, we do our qualifying. Then we are in a situation to evaluate would one FP1 be enough to get out what we want and go from there?

“I’m happy with just the main race,” the Dutchman, Max told Sport TV. “I think that’s way better for the excitement. I naturally, of course, hope that there won’t be too many changes otherwise I won’t be around for too long.”
