New Zealand and Pakistan faced off in the first Test that kicked off on December 26, Monday and it was Kane Williamson who stood up for the team on Day 4 of the contest, eventually reaching the 200-run landmark. While one has to agree that the Pakistani star Abrar Ahmed scored a five-for to his name, Williamson stood up for his team and reached the feat of helping his team take a massive lead.
While Babar Azam scored 161 runs in the first innings and helped Pakistan put on 438 runs on the board, the Kiwi veteran scored a double century in their first innings, eventually inching his team closer to a massive win in the Test. Tom Latham, the opener, scored the century and set the tone for the team to take a massive lead.
The Ish Sodhi-Kane Williamson magic at Karachi
Devon Conway, the star cricketer from New Zealand, missed his century by just 9 runs, Ish Sodhi, the ace spinner, joined hands with the Black Caps star and put on a 159-run partnership with the veteran, setting the tone for the team to take an early lead in the series.
Over the course, Williamson managed to gather 21 boundaries and one six, eventually reaching the milestone of 395 balls and Tim Southee was quick enough to declare the innings right away at 612/9, taking a lead of 174 runs and eventually ensuring that the New Zealand team were well ahead in the game.
It was Williamson’s fifth double century in his international career and it remained to be seen if they could wrap things up with a day and a half left ahead of Session 3 on Thursday. Pakistan, on the other hand, would hope to make a comeback with the bat and draw the game, given that it was the only possible outcome for Babar and his men.
If at all the Pakistani men manage to pull off a miraculous win from here, it would be a game to remember and would help them finish the year on a high, although it looked highly unlikely, given the short span of time they had in their hands.
As things stand, let us take a look at a few Twitter reactions to Kane Williamson’s double century:
