Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals locked horns in the 55th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday. The hosts’ skipper MS Dhoni won the flip of the coin and decided to bat first at the home ground against the Delhi Capitals.
Batting first, CSK managed to post a total of 167 runs for the loss of eight wickets owing to the mixed efforts from a couple of batters in the batting lineup. Later on, Delhi Capitals fell short of the target and lost the match by a margin of 27 runs and faced the seventh defeat in their 11th match during the current season.
The fans were also elated and ecstatic following another win for the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings to make a strong position at the second spot in the points table of the tournament. Talking about the entire action of the match, CSK batters made a collective effort as Shivam Duba and Devon Conway scored 25 and 24 runs respectively alongside 23 and 21 runs each by Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja. Other than all these efforts, wicketkeeper-skipper MS Dhoni also scored 20 runs off just 9 balls with a boundary and two sixes to his name. On the back of these efforts, CSK managed to score 167 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Mitchell Marsh and Axar Patel scalped 3 and 2 wickets respectively for DC alongside one wicket each claimed by Khaleel Ahmed, Kuldeep Yadav, and Lalit Yadav.
While chasing the target, the Delhi Capitals’ batting lineup choked again CSK’s bowling and they could score only 140 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the entire 20 overs. It was only the middle order batter Rilee Rossouw who played a struggling knock and scored 35 runs with two boundaries and six off 37 balls.
Eventually, the hosts won the match by 27 runs to keep their winning momentum in the tournament.
