On 21 October 2022, West Indies took on Ireland in the 20-20 World Cup in Hobart. West Indies were coming off after winning the last match against Zimbabwe. Although they lost the opener against Scotland. On the other hand, Ireland were also coming off a win after tasting a defeat against Zimbabwe in the opener.  

Speaking of the match, it was a must-win game for both teams. Whoever wins the game, would have qualified for the “Super 12” stage. West Indies won the toss and choose to bat first in this important clash.

Speaking of West Indies, their openers did not have a good start. They lost the first wicket on the fourth delivery of the second over. Other batters chipped in with some contributions as West Indies scored only 146 runs for five wickets in 20 overs. Only Brandon King scored 62* runs off 48 balls, including six fours and one six. For Ireland, Gareth Delany took three wickets for 16 runs in four overs. In reply, Ireland's batters made a fantastic start to the chase.

In the first six overs of Powerplay only, they scored 64 runs without losing any wickets. Skipper Andrew Balbirnie lost his wicket after scoring 37 runs off 23 balls, including three fours and three sixes. But, Paul Stirling and Tucker were batting smoothly as Ireland were cruising at 115 runs in 13 overs by losing only one wicket. But, they did not lose any more wickets as Ireland chased the target down in just 117.3 Overs. With this win, Ireland qualified for the next round of the ongoing World Cup. On the other hand, two-time 20-20 World Cup champions, West Indies got knocked out of the tournament. Fans were in shock seeing such a decline in the Caribbean cricket team.  They came up with their views on the exit on social media platforms regarding the performance of West Indies.
