Magnificent knocks from David Miller and Rahul Tewatia helped Gujarat to pull off a remarkable win over Lucknow.  Gujarat won the toss and elected to field first, keeping the dew factor in mind. Mohammed Shami was breathing fire in the day as he took the wicket of Lucknow skipper KL Rahul on the first ball of the game. However, Shami had to wait for the third umpire to get the breakthrough.

Gujarat appealed for caught behind against Rahul which was turned down by the on-field umpire. The third umpire found out that Rahul had edged the ball before it landed in Matthew Wade's gloves. The decision was overturned and it mark the beginning of one of the fieriest spells. He and Varun Aaron took three and one wickets respectively with Lucknow being reduced to 32/4 in the powerplay.

Aaron took the wicket of Evin Lewis (10) while Shami accounted for Quinton de Kock (7) and Manish Pandey (6). However, the partnership of 87 for the fifth wicket between Deepak Hooda (55) and Ayush Badoni (54) ensured that the team reaches a respectable total of 158/6. Notably, Shami could have had his fourth wicket if Lockie Ferguson had grabbed the chance of Badoni in the 18th over of the innings.

In reply, Gujarat lost two early wickets of Shubham Gill (0) and Vijay Shankar (4) to Dushmantha Chameera with the scorecard reading 15/2. Skipper Hardik Pandya (33) and Matthew Wade stitched a partnership of 57 runs before the former was dismissed by his elder brother Krunal. Wade followed in the next over as he was clean bowled by Deepak Hooda.

At 78/4, David Miller (30) and Rahul Tewatia stitched a partnership of 60 runs before the former was caught by Rahul, who took a juggling catch. Tewatia (40*) and Abhinav Manohar (15*) ensured the team cross the line with two balls lefts and five wickets in hand.
