The bidding war for Deepak Chahar was one of the biggest seen in this edition of the auction. He became the costliest player Chennai ever purchased in the auction. Chahar was sold for a massive price of 14 crores only behind Ishan Kishan so far. Notably, Chennai has never paid beyond 10 crores to any player in the auction.
The 29-year old has only played under the captaincy of MS Dhoni in the Indian T20 League, first for the Pune team and then for Chennai. In the 63 matches that he has played, Chahar has 59 wickets at an economy of 7.8. He is a wicket-taking option in the powerplays and also has the skills with the bat.
Chahar is currently playing with the Indian team in the series against West Indies and is doing well. He only played in the third ODI, where he scored a brilliant half-century and also got two wickets in the second innings.
