The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named Rohit Sharma as the skipper for the three-match T20I series versus New Zealand, scheduled to begin on November 17. Meanwhile, KL Rahul has been appointed as the vice-captain of the 16-member squad for the series.

India were due to get a new skipper after Virat Kohli's term at the helm in T20Is came to an end with India's exit from the 20-20 World Cup. . Rohit Sharma, who was Kohli's deputy, was the likely candidate to take over captaincy reins. Rohit comes with a tremendous amount of leadership experience as he has been the captain of Mumbai Indians for nine years in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has won five titles in the franchise T20 tournament. He has also stepped up to lead India in the absence of Kohli and has done an able job at it.

His most memorable moment came in the Nidhas Trophy Final in 2018, when he led a fairly inexperienced team to a victory in the T20 tournament in Sri Lanka. Fans naturally were thrilled to see Rohit Sharma as the captain and could not contain the excitement. They flooded Twitter to welcome the 34-year as the new leader in the T20Is for India.
