Delhi snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Mumbai in the second game of the Indian T20 League. With this, Mumbai continued their nine-year streak of losing their first game of a season. The last time they won their opening match was in 2012, when they beat the then-defending champions Chennai in their first game. Talking about the game, the 2020 finalists won the toss and elected to field first at the Brabourne Stadium.

Mumbai openers, skipper Rohit Sharma (41) and Ishan Kishan provided a great start with a partnership of 67 runs in 8.2 overs. The former was the first victim of Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav. Two overs later, Anmolpreet Singh was also taken out by Yadav. Debutant Tilak Varma scored a brisk 22 off 15 balls including three fours.

The moment of the innings was the spectacular catch taken by Tim Siefert to dismiss Keiron Pollard. On the second last ball of the 16th over, Pollard tried to clear the in-field towards square leg position. However, he was stopped by a stunning catch off the bowling of Kuldeep Yadav. Meanwhile, Kishan's innings of unbeaten 81 off 48 balls helped the side post a decent total of 177/5.

In reply, the Rishabh Pant-led side had a great start with 30/0 in three overs. Leggie Murugan Ashwin took two wickets in the fourth over to derail the chase. In the over, Ashwin dismissed Siefert (21) and Mandeep Singh for a two-ball duck. The Men In Red and Blue were staring down towards a defeat with the scorecard reading 104/6. They had lost the wickets of Pant (1), Prithvi Shaw (31), Rovman Powell (0), and Shardul Thakur (22).

However, the unbeaten partnership of 75 runs between Axar Patel (38*) and Lalit Yadav (48*) ensured the team snatch the game from the jaws defeat by four wicket and 10 balls to spare.
