Rajasthan and Hyderabad's season-opening was a fully one-sided affair in favour of Rajasthan. They put up some outstanding displays with the bat and the ball. Almost all of their players contributed to their team's victory. At the toss, they were asked to bat first, and it turned out to be a brilliant decision for them. They scored 210 runs in the first innings to put themselves in a good position.
In the powerplay, Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal got them off to a fast start. In the first six overs, they scored 58 runs without losing a wicket. Jaiswal was dismissed immediately following the powerplay for a total of 20 in 16 balls. Buttler subsequently formed a solid partnership with Samson, but he too was dismissed for a 35. Devdutt Padikkal then played well with Sanju Samson. Padikkal scored 41 runs and the team's captain hit a half-century. Shimron Hetmyer then made a brief appearance, scoring 32 runs in 13 balls while hitting two fours and three sixes.
In the chase, Hyderabad never was in the game. They lost 3 wickets in the powerplay with just 14 runs on the board. This is the worst powerplay score in the ITL. However, Hyderabad was able to score a few runs in the end. Aiden Markram hit a half-century, Washington Sundar hit a quick 40, and Romario Shepherd played a little cameo. Yuzvendra Chahal was the standout performer in the second innings, taking three wickets in the middle overs while conceding only 22 runs. Prasidh Krishna and Trent Boult both took two wickets.

Not sure how the "Sanju Samson is inconsistent" narrative is STILL thrown around.
For two years now, he's been a different beast. Controlled aggression a hallmark of his batting now and it reflects in his numbers too
40+ Avg & 130+ SR in 2021. #IPL2022 #SRHvsRR

Spent 20+ crores on Abhishek, Pooran and Williamson. Could have got Williamson for max 4 - 5 crores at the auction. Dropped the likes of Warner, Rashid, Bairstow. Retained inexperienced Umran and Abdul Samad for crores. @SunRisers are an absolute joke of a franchisee. #SRHvsRR

That was some terrific batsmanship by @rajasthanroyals!Brillaint shots by Samson, Devdutt and Hetmeyer, Srh really needs to tweak their bowling a lot in order to restrict any team this year ! Pitch is a belter but i feel RR has a super bowling line up to contain SRH #SRHvsRR
