The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction has witnessed some intriguing buys and misses so far, with one of the notable highlights being Travis Head's acquisition by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Head, who has been making waves in the international cricket scene especially after the match-winning century in both the finals of the ODI World Cup and World Test Championship sealed a lucrative deal of Rs 6.8 crores with SRH, signalling a remarkable resurgence in his IPL journey.

Travis Head, a left-handed batter, had earlier been associated with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2016. However, his stint was short-lived and he last played in the IPL back in 2017. Now, he is set to make a comeback, eager to showcase his demolishing batting skills in the upcoming IPL season.

His time with RCB saw him play 10 matches, accumulating 205 runs at an average of 29.29 and an impressive strike rate of 138.51. Moreover, he showcased his versatility by claiming two wickets, albeit with a higher economy of 10.12.

CSK, MI, RCB and SRH get into bidding war 

The bidding war for Head was intense, reflecting the teams' recognition of his batting prowess. With the SRH jersey on, expectations are high for Head to contribute significantly to the team's success in the upcoming season just like he did for Australia in 2023. Beyond the IPL, Travis Head's T20 International career shows the Aussie all-rounder's prowess.

With 554 runs in 23 matches at a striking rate of 146.17, Head has proven his mettle in the shortest format. However, his bowling endeavours in T20Is have been modest, with just one wicket to his name but he has shown in the recently concluded ODI World Cup that he can change the match even with his bowling and fielding.
