Dinesh Bana, who hit the winning six for India in the final of the U-19 World Cup has become a star overnight. He hit a six above long-on, and that shot resembled that of MS Dhoni's 2011 World Cup-winning shot. And now, another one of Bana's stories has come up that has an uncanny resemblance to MS Dhoni.
The story involves Bana not being the first choice for the World Cup and how he impressed selectors with one of his performances.
In a match between India B and India F, Nishant Sandhu informed Bana that selectors will be watching the match to which he replied by telling Sandhu to count out the sixes. A similar scene was displayed in Dhoni's biopic 'MS Dhoni: The untold story.' where Dhoni was seen hitting sixes towards the selectors which led to his selection in the Indian team.
Sindhu told Bana, “Aaj Selectors aane waale hain (The selectors are going to come today)”. To which Bana responded, “Tu bas six count karna aaj mere (Just count the number of sixes I hit today).">
In that match, in his knock of 170 from 98 balls, he hit 10 fours and 14 sixes. This impressed selectors to choose him for the U-19 World Cup.
India became the only team to lift the title for the fifth time. Earlier, they had won the tournament in 2000, 2008, 2012, and 2018. Many performers including Raj Bawa, Ravi Kumar, Shaik Rasheed, Nishant Sandhu, and Dinesh Bana contributed to the win.
