Ahead of the T20 World Cup, the Indian management is sweating over the fitness of spinner Varun Chakravarthy. The mystery spinner has been very effective for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and many have termed him as India’s trump card in the showpiece event. However, Chakravarthy is struggling with a dodgy knee which can put his World Cup plans in jeopardy.
Varun Chakravarthy is the fourth spinner in the Indian squad along with Ravichandran Ashwin, Rahul Chahar and Ravindra Jadeja. However, barring him, others have struggled in the second leg of the Indian Premier League so far Meanwhile, Indian management have added fast bowler Umran Malik to the Indian contingent as a net bowler keeping in mind the injury concerns of Varun Chakravarthy.
Meanwhile, the calls to include Yuzvendra Chahal has intensified after the leg spinner's brilliant performances in the IPL. Chahal has been in fine form in the second leg of IPL, while the other spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Rahul Chahar have failed to trouble the batters. A source close to the development, however, said that no discussions about the inclusion of Yuzvendra Chahal has been done yet.
“No decision has been taken on Chahal. It’s unfortunate that Mumbai Indians had dropped Rahul Chahar from the playing XI. If Chahal will be asked to stay back as a cover will be decided once the selectors and team management discuss the situation,” the source said.
India will kick off their T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan on October 24 in Dubai. Ahead of their opening clash, the team will play a couple of warm-up games against England and Australia.
