Former India cricketer Suresh Raina is set to be honored with a doctorate by Vels University. These days, he has been commentating, and his first stint behind the mic was during the Indian T20 League 2022. This was the first time in the history of the tournament that Raina didn't play. Meanwhile, the Vels Institute of Science, Technology, and Advanced Studies have invited the left-hander to award him a Doctorate degree.

“Where there is no struggle, there is no strength. It is not how big you are, it is how big you play. We are delighted to invite Mr. Suresh Raina, a talented and humble human being, to receive the Honoris Causa from our esteemed Vels Institute of Science, Technology, and Advanced Studies," the university said.

Talking about the two-time World Championship winner, was one of the most successful white-ball players from India. He has played 226 ODIs and 78 T20Is and has 5615 and 1605 runs to his name, respectively. In the cash-rich league, he is still one of the highest run-getter even after not doing well in the 2020 and 2021 seasons. The Uttar Pradesh player has 5528 runs to his name in 205 games.

After he had gone unsold in the player auction early this year, the fans were upset and started trolling the Chennai franchise of the biggest T20 League. With the team, he was part of the title-winning seasons in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021. Ahead of the 2010 final, he was termed as “best fielder” by the Indian Cricket Board. The 35-year-old holds the record for most catches in the league (105) across seasons.

The Muradnagar-born was part of the 2011 World Cup winning team and the 2013 Champions Trophy winning team. A lot of fans might remember that he is the first centurion in T20Is. He achieved the feat in the 20-20 World Cup game against South Africa. Last year, Raina tried his hand at being an author and released his autobiography, “Believe—What Life and Cricket taught me”. In 2017, he was made the brand ambassador of the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC).
