Virat Kohli’s shocking decision to relinquish captaincy from the shortest format for team India has divided the world. While some of the experts were shocked at the timing of the announcement, the others termed it as a smart decision owing to demands in all three formats.
Former England captain, Michael Vaughan has shared his opinion on the matter and termed Kohli’s decision as an unselfish one. Vaughan said that giving up T20I leadership will help the Indian skipper to relax and enjoy his game a bit more.
"Well Done... that's a very unselfish decision and also one which will give you some nice space to hopefully relax a little away from all the pressures," Vaughan commented on Kohli's Instagram post.
Kohli will lead India one last time for India in the shortest format in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, which begins on October 17. India are placed in Group B along with Pakistan, New Zealand, and Afghanistan. Two more teams will join these three teams from the Qualifiers, which is scheduled to take place in Oman.
India has announced its 15-member squad with Rohit Sharma as the designated vice-captain. Ideally, after Kohli, he should take on the leadership in the T20 format after the World Cup. But the BCCI has not made any official announcement as of yet. Recently, few reports also emerged that Kohli proposed names of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant for vice-captaincy in the ODI and T20I formats respectively.
