Ben Stokes’s team broke the record for the most runs scored on the first day of first Test match of the series against Pakistan. England notched a mammoth score 657 runs inside the first two days. Pakistan too didn’t succumb under pressure and also exhibited a brilliant batting display. Babar Azam and Co. notched a pretty good score of 579 runs on the board.
At that stage, it looked like the Test match would result in a draw. But England unleashed white-ball cricket mode and smashed 264 runs in just 35.5 overs before declaring their innings and setting a target of 343 runs for the opposition to win the match.
Pakistan tried hard and, at one stage, it looked like they would go on to win the match. The likes of Imam Ul Haq (48), Azhar Ali (40), Saud Shakeel (76), M Rizwan (46), and Agha Salman (30) made notable contributions but Anderson and Robinson kept chipping in with wickets and, eventually, took England over the line.
Anderson and Robinson picked four wickets each as England bundled out Pakistan for 268 runs, thereby winning the match by 74 runs. The second Test match is currently underway and England have opted to bat first after winning the toss.
