Vinicius Junior stated LaLiga "belongs to the racists" as Real Madrid star registered the racist insults he received at Valencia on Sunday for a hate crime. In the Mestalla amid Real Madrid's 1-0 loss to Valencia, there were chants directed at Vinicius. The game was stopped in the second half for ten minutes as the obviously enraged 22-year-old seized the referee and pointed at the supporters he believed had abused him. After a fight with striker Hugo Duro, Vinicius was later dismissed due to violent conduct in the stoppage time of the game.
After the game, the fourteen-time Champions League winners issued a statement, “Real Madrid strongly condemns the events that took place yesterday against our player Vinicius Junior. These events represent a direct attack on the social and democratic model of coexistence of our state based on the rule of law.
The statement further read, "Real Madrid believes that such attacks also constitute a hate crime and has therefore filed the corresponding report with the Attorney General's Office, specifically with the Prosecutor's Office against crimes of hatred and discrimination, in order for the facts to be investigated and for those responsible to be held accountable."
LaLiga has stated that it will ask for all photographs that are accessible in order to look into what happened in view of the situation. The league stated in a statement that it will take the proper legal action if any hate crimes were found. The supporters engaged in the incident will be "banned for life" by Valencia, who also said they had identified one of the fans who made racial gestures against the Real Madrid winger.
The hosts of the game, Valencia also issued a statement that, “Valencia CF have proceeded to open a disciplinary case, will apply the maximum level of severity, including a lifetime stadium ban against the fans involved, and is working closely together with the authorities. The club strongly condemn this type of behaviour, which has no place in football and society and does not correspond to the values of Valencia CF and our fans.”
