Australia's legendary umpire Simon Taufel has suggested that Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Virender Sehwag can be good umpires. The three Indian players have played a lot of international cricket and have understood the game in depth.
Taufel said that he would love to see these players take up umpiring because they know the game conditions so well. "I would love to see Virat Kohli or Ravi Ashwin or Sehwag take up umpiring because they know the rules so well - playing conditions of the game and all," he said while talking to News9.
While Virat Kohli and R Ashwin are still playing the game, Virender Sehwag retired from the game a few years ago. However, the veteran cricketer has turned into a cricket expert and a commentator. Just like umpiring, this profession requires a deep knowledge of the game and its rules as well.
Ravichandran Ashwin, on the other hand, is famous for digging up several laws that have caused controversies. Yet, he has always remained well within the rules. More recently, he was retired out while playing for the Rajasthan team in the Indian T20 League 2022. Thus, the 35-year old could be an outstanding umpire if he ever decides to switch lanes.
Sehwag on Kohli
Speaking of the Indian T20 League 2022, Sehwag believes that Virat Kohli's team Bangalore has evolved a lot since Faf du Plessis took over the captaincy. He feels that the team has matured significantly in terms of sticking to its combination, which was not the case under Virat's captaincy.
"The arrival of Sanjay Bangar as head coach and a new captain has changed RCB’s thinking. We have seen how Virat Kohli used to think as he used to drop a player after no performance in 2-3 games. But Bangar and Du Plessis have kept the team almost consistent throughout. Except for Patidar for Anuj Rawat, I don’t think they made any changes due to poor performance," Sehwag told Cricbuzz.
