India and RCB skipper Virat Kohli has become the first Indian to go past the 10,000 run mark in T20 Cricket. Kohli was 13 runs short of joining the elite list and reached the landmark with a stellar six off Jasprit Bumrah. Kohli is only the fifth batter to reach the figure. West Indies' Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard, Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik and Australia’s David Warner are the other cricketers to have breached the 10K mark.

Chris Gayle currently leads the charts with 14261 runs in T20 Cricket, with 22 centuries and 87 half-centuries. Meanwhile, Kohli stroked his second consecutive half-century of the IPL 2021 to help RCB post 165 in their 20 overs against Mumbai Indians.

Kohli recently announced that he will quit RCB captaincy after the ongoing season of the IPL. This came days after he revealed that T20 World Cup will be his last tournament as India T20 skipper. Kohli cited workload management as the reason for his decision and said he wants to focus a bit more on his batting. There is no clarity on who will lead RCB after Kohli. However, former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar said that Kieron Pollard, Suryakumar Yadav and David Warner can be good choices for the same.

Manjrekar’s comments look a bit optimistic, especially for Pollard and Yadav, who are integral parts of the Mumbai Indians set up and it’s unlikely that the five-time champions will let them go. David Warner though could be an option given that Sunrisers Hyderabad may not retain the southpaw for the next season.
