After suffering a defeat in the WTC final, Virat Kohli has hinted at making some changes to the squad for the upcoming England series. India will face England in five Test matches, starting on August 4. For the ICC WTC final, Indian captain Virat Kohli declared his team's playing XI one day before the final clash. He chose to include two spinners on overcast and swinging conditions in Southampton whereas, Kane Williamson decided to go for an all-out pace attack.

It was Virat Kohli's third defeat as captain in knockout matches and finals of ICC tournaments

The next World Test Championship final is scheduled to be played in 2023. Thus, before that, the Indian cricket team will also have a 50-over World Cup coming up. The event is going to take place in India. Virat Kohli spoke about the need to build the team for the future. He emphasized more the fact that the current white-ball squad is pretty strong with great depth. Kohli wants the same to be implemented in Team India's red-ball plans in the near future by bringing in the players with the right mindset. He also talked about finding ways to score runs against quality bowling attacks like that of New Zealand.

Virat Kohli did not take any names, but the captain's words are sure to keep experienced batsman Cheteshwar Pujara on his toes. India's Test specialist managed to score only 8 runs off 54 balls in the first innings. In the second innings, he then scored just 15 runs off 80 deliveries. In the end, New Zealand quickly chased down the target of 139-runs without much trouble.

This was Virat Kohli's third defeat as captain in knockout matches and finals of ICC tournaments. Before the WTC final, Virat Kohli had lost in the semi-final of the 2019 ICC World Cup. That loss in England had come two years after Pakistan defeated India in the 2017 Champions Trophy final. The defeat against Pakistan also came under Virat Kohli's captaincy.
