On Sunday, Indian skipper Virat Kohli became the 9th player to take his tally to 250 capped appearances for India. In 249 ODI matches, Kohli has amassed a total of 11888 runs with a terrific average of 59.14 and a strike rate of 93.26. In his cricket career, Kohli has scored 43 centuries and 58 half-centuries in total. Prior to yesterday, Kohli is now part of the exclusive set of players who have appeared 250 times in ODIS.

After losing 2 consecutive ODI games against Australia, India will look to grab a win under their belt. Nonetheless, it would just be a consolation prize for the Indian team at best. Kohli and the team need to pull their socks up if they want to win the 3rd ODI.

Virat now part of the 250-ODI club

Now the 9th player to achieve this milestone, Kohli is now part of an elite list. The player with the most ODI appearances is Sachin Tendulkar. Considered the god of cricket, Tendulkar has appeared for India 463 times in ODIS. Second, on this list is Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The former Indian captain has made 350 appearances in ODIS. Following the likes of these legends are Dravid(344), Azharuddin(334), Ganguly(311), Yuvraj Singh(304), Kumble(271), and Sehwag(251).

Amongst all these players, Tendulkar is the highest run-getter for India in ODIS. Remarkably, Tendulkar is also the highest run-getter in ODI history, with a total of 18426 runs. We now understand why Tendulkar is the best batsman of all time.

Kohli, however, is not far behind Tendulkar. While Tendulkar played 463 matches to hit 18426 runs, Kohli has hit 11977 runs in just 250 games. Considering his talent, Virat could supersede Tendulkar to become the highest run-getter in ODIs.

Kohli might also set another record sooner or later. If Kohli scores only 112 runs, he will join Tendulkar as the only Indian batsmen to hit 12000 ODI runs. Considering non-Indian batsmen, Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka tops the list. The veteran has managed to hit an outstanding 14234 runs in his ODI career. Second, on this list is Ricky Ponting. The former Australian captain has scored 13430 runs in his entire ODI career. Mahela Jayawardene is the second Sri-Lankan on this list. He has scored 12650 runs in his remarkable ODI career.

Kohli will now have his eyes on the 13000 run mark and then the 18000 run mark. With such a terrific ODI career, we believe Kohli will achieve these milestones eventually.
