Suresh Raina believes that Virat Kohli needs to be given a bit more time to get into his groove as the captain of the Indian cricket team. After India's defeat in the ICC WTC final, there has been plenty of debate surrounding Virat Kohli's future as team India's captain. Virat Kohli has been India's most successful Test skipper with 33 wins. Some people feel that the veteran should step down and allow the concept of split captaincy to embrace Indian cricket. On the other hand, a few have also reckoned that Virat Kohli should continue as the leader across all three formats, considering the contribution he has made to the team since his appointment.
I am confident that Virat Kohli and the team will get their hands on at least one ICC title: Suresh Raina
Virat Kohli took over as India's Test skipper back in the year 2014. He then became the limited-overs captain from 2017 onwards. Virat Kohli is also the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Under Virat Kohli, the Indian cricket team has come close thrice to lift an ICC Trophy. This includes the Champions Trophy in 2017, the 2019 World Cup, and the WTC final. However, the team has always stumbled at the final match. With three consecutive ICC World Cups lined up, Suresh Raina is confident that Virat Kohli and the team will get their hands on at least one ICC title.
Former Indian batsman Suresh Raina also pointed out why India lost the WTC final. He stated that it was not due to conditions but because the Indian batsmen could not perform. Despite two entire days getting washed out due to rain, the final ended up producing a winner. Needing to bat out four sessions, team India were bundled out for 170 in their second innings. In response, New Zealand chased down 139 to be crowned the maiden ICC World Test Championship. Suresh Raina concluded the discussion by stating that the senior Indian batsmen should have shown a little more responsibility.
